I’m hopping right along with my Moda Bake Shop summer progress! I love staring with a great pattern and adding my own spin with color and fabric. So if you’re checking out the MBS blocks, mine look a wee bit different. For instance, I’m not using the recommended fabrics. Instead I choose a more ‘Lorrie‘ palate and went with the Riley Blake Backyard Roses line. Bright colors with a retro 30’s feel.
Block 9✔️ Bee-Fruitful On this block I chose to machine applique the napkin/quilt the watermelon is resting on instead of embroidering it and added a lazy daisy stitch as the seeds.
Block 10✔️ Bee-Kind The changes I made to this block were simply floss color choices and added eyelashes to her because who doesn’t love pink fluffy bunnies!
Block 11✔️ Bee-Industrious Once again, it’s all in the colors. A brighter green tractor and I added more color with some purple wildflowers to the grass.
Block 12✔️ Bee-Grateful I just substituted the wool hive entrance with a brown cotton plaid. Easy-peasy:)
Don’t be afraid to take an existing pattern and create your own version, your own vision of it. Small changes can make a big impact. This is how we grow as quilter’s. Go outside of the box and Bee-Creative!!
She’s the newest baker on the block and she’ll be releasing 20 blocks over the course of the summer until late August. Each block includes a sweet Bee and a cute theme. I was sold on this idea when I saw the bicycle with a basket of flowers block. I’ve already finished 4 of my blocks so far.
My CLMQG friend, Sharon, got me all excited about these blocks! Isn’t that exactly what good quilty friends do!?!
I’m using Riley Blake’s Backyard Roses fabric for my blocks. I haven’t exactly cut the fabrics yet but I’m auditioning them as I go along by photographing my stitchery on pressed fat quarters. It’s lookin’ pretty sweet so far!
If you decide to join in on the summer fun, be sure to post your blocks on the Bee-utiful Quilt-A-Long FB group and on Instagram with the hashtags #beeutifulQAL.
Block 1 Bee-Curious
Block 2 Bee-Productive
Block 3 Bee-Lovely
Block 4 Bee-Humble
Stay with me this summer while I Bee-creative🐝🐝🐝!!

I’ll be showing you my block on August 22nd. I’ll be sewing the ducks. Adorable, right?!?
I’m really excited to be a part of this sew along and share it with you too.

Ok, one more baby kit. Ok, maybe another one very soon but let’s just start with this one. It deserves a post all on its own. It’s so stinkin’ sweet it makes my teeth hurt!
This is Elea Lutz Milk, Sugar, Flower line from Riley Blake. I ❤️❤️ her fabrics soooo much! MSF is reminiscent of vintage fabrics and nursery decor. Sweet and full of cottage charm. Magpies, strawberries, & little bunnies and kitties all rolled up into my most favorite line of hers yet…at least until the next one comes out in April. And let me tell ya…I’m pretty excited about that one too!
I figured what better way to show off these prints than in the Lucky Stars quilt pattern by Atkinson Designs. I’ts scrappy, just they way these fabrics would have been back in the day.
This pattern is super simple too. And don’t forget to check out the blog post I wrote about an easy way to square up your stars without the fuss. You can find that by clicking HERE.
Goodness, I just love retro and 30’s prints…The stars set on an aqua dottie background. I think that extra touch makes it feel even more vintage.
This KIT can be purchased with or without the backing fabric. With the backing included, you’ll recieve a complete quilt kit, the fabrics for the top, the pattern, backing & binding. Each option can be found in the SewModDesigns Etsy shop.
Even better is that this quilt finishes to a child’s lap quilt, measuring 45″ x 60″. So that means the quilt will be with them from baby to toddler to child…a keepsake. Or if you’re like me, you’re keeping it for yourself!!
Daisy even loves this quilt!
Create your handmade heirloom for a special little girl!
Christmas is fast approaching but there’s still time to whip up a special handmade gift for the baby in your life.
The Equilateral quilt kit that I kitted for the boys is a popular seller so why shouldn’t the girls get as just a cute quilt as the boys? The Wildflower Meadow line from Melly & Me and Riley Blake Fabrics is perfect for the triangles.
Comfort baby in all the goodness of theses adorable nature friends. The focus fabric in this line features hedgehogs, sweet little bluebirds and playful squirrels all tossed amoung the pretty wildflowers! Aren’t these little hedgehogs adorable!?!
The quilt top colors of this KIT are bright pink, blues, and yellows. The backing is blue wildflowers on white with tiny pink birds tied all together with a hot pink binding.
Complete KIT comes with enough fabric to make the quilt top, binding, backing and free quilt instructions. Batting NOT included. Quilt measures approx. 35″x 42.5″. $42 plus shipping.
Pattern includes step-by-step instructions for assembly. Equilateral triangle quilts are fun and fast to make. After you make one using the pattern, you’ll want to make more! The quilt can either be cut using the template provided in the pattern or using the Creative Grids 60 degree triangle ruler found here. The Equilateral tutorial can be found here if you’d like more info on how to assemble it.
Now…a new one for baby boy…Dino-Roar!
Dino-Roar is made using Riley Blake’s Dinosaur fabric line in a traditional Road To Tennessee quilt layout. A Road to Tennessee block is basically a Snowball block with only two of the corners replaced with a coordinating fabric instead of all four. So easy and perfect for any fabrics and especially scraps.
Dino-Roar uses 8 different fun prints in oranges, greens, browns & blues. There are Dinos tossed in different sizes, a sweet little leaf print and other coordinating Dino ‘egg’ prints. Kona Snow is used for the white. The binding ties it all together with Kona Chocolate.
Dino-Roar measures 45″ x 45″ and is a complete kit as well including the backing, binding and free pattern. $55 plus shipping.
The backing is available in any of the Dinosaur prints and can be selected here at the time of checkout.
Easy, fast & fun and just in time for Christmas! Feel free to convo me if you have any questions.
SewMod’s latest quilt kit is made using Lila Tueller’s fabric line Halle Rose from Rikey Blake. It has all my favorite colors…the teals, oranges and pinks of course!
I used the quilt pattern from Atkinson Designs called Lucky Stars. You can’t go wrong with this one ya’ll. It’s so versatile. All you need is some background fabric and a bunch of beautiful fat quarters!
The great thing about Lucky Stars is that you can chain piece almost the entire quilt. I’m not kidding. And that means a quicker finish:) OK, so there’s several great things about this pattern aside from chain piecing…it’s simple with very little seams to match up, an entire line looks and works great with it so there’s no thinking about what fabrics to choose, it looks great with the star points scrappy(like mine) or all the same fabric, and the pattern has all of the different quilt sizes and fabric requirements. That means you can use it over and over. One for baby, one to keep your lap warm and one for your bed!
Paige quilted this one in a pretty, all-over design.
I do have a a tip & short cut on trimming your blocks down to size. Trimming for me is so cumbersome and it never fails…I always screw up at least one block trying to figure out how to trim without having a lopsided block!
Start by cutting a 9-1/2″ square from freezer paper, fold it into fourths and mark the center with a x.
Fold your pieced block in fourths and finger press.
Place your freezer paper on top of the right side of the pieced block, shiny side down, lining up your ‘X’ in the center. Lightly press to keep it from shifting.
Trim the block using your rotary cutter and ruler to the 9-1/2″ square.
Remove the freezer paper and repeat with all of your blocks. Easy peasy! Perfectly trimmed 9-1/2″ squares.
To find the Lucky Stars KIT and/or pattern, visit the SewModDesigns Etsy shop. Kit includes fabrics to piece the lap sized quilt top(60″x75″), binding and the pattern, $68.75 plus shipping. There is also yardage available in the shop as well.
Take a Fancy Free bike ride and smell all the pretty flowers along the way.
I used one of our easiest patterns, ‘Baby Me Blankie’, to make this baby girl quilt. Simple cutting and strip piecing help this baby assemble fast! Wanna know how long it takes me to make one of these? 40 minutes. Yep. You heard me right…40 minutes! So, if I factor in cut time, I’ve made this quilt top in less than an hour.
The quilting on ‘Baby Me Blankie’ is simple enough to do yourself. Heck, I even did it! All you need to do is properly pin the layers and stitch a 1/4″ along each side of the strips seam allowances. Wanna know how long it took me? About 45 minutes!
Add in your binding time and you’ve got yourself a handmade baby gift for a special bitty one all finished in just one day! Fast, Easy, & Fancy Free.
These kits are available now in the SewModDesigns Etsy shop.Kit is $40.00 plus shipping and comes complete with top, backing, binding & free pattern.
