Hi. I’m Lorrie & welcome to my blog! I’m a Quilter, Crafter & Sewista. I’m recently married to an amazing guy and a mom to ‘Bitty‘, 2 ‘Zombie’ tweens and my cute pup Daisy. I’m not gonna sugar coat it, I love to talk, drink wine, & I have a major sweet tooth. You’ll usually find me working from home, while still in my p.j.’s of course.
SewModDesigns
In 2009 I was invited to join a small group of modern quilters. Each of us were looking for a place to share ideas and find inspiration through each other. I was currently going through a divorce and looking for some “therapy”. I knew that sewing with this group was exactly what I needed! A way to express myself, reconnect with my creative spirit and meet new people.
And that’s where I met Paige…
We started SewMod with a simple vision…we would use traditional blocks and patterns and put a modern, whimsy spin on them through color and design.
Paige has a great eye for putting fabrics together and I love adding the extras, like embroidery and applique. We both brought something unique to the business.
We noticed there was a lack of bright, modern fabrics being offered in our area. By 2010 we officially opened our own Etsy shop…SewModDesigns, offering quality, quilt shop fabrics, notions and unique patterns. We wanted to attract not only the generation that taught us how to quilt but inspire the upcoming generation to create as well.
You’ll find lots of great tutorials, ideas, and fabulous projects here at SewMod!
Over time that little group that met to sew, branched out into something bigger and is now the Crystal Lake Modern Quilt Guild in the northwestern suburbs of Chicago. The CLMQG is one of the fastest growing modern guilds in ChicagoLand. We meet to create & sew, share and connect. We are a friendly guild and we welcome you to join us if you’re in the area. “The mission is to support and encourage the growth and development of modern quilting through art, education, and community.”
Join us at SewMod. Dont be shy! We encourage communication. Feel free to contact us and share what’s going on in your neck of the woods and what project you’re working on. Or, if you’ve made something from one of our tutorials or patterns…send us a pic!

I purchased your tuffet pattern in the round and in the square. I want to make more than one. Do I have to buy a completely new pattern every time I want to make another one? Or, do you have the foundation only that can be purchased?
Thanks.

Your quilting guild for people learning to sew or quilt or just getting together to share? I’m interested in learning to quilt.

Hi Barb! The guild is a great place for Quilters who are just starting to sew and quilt because you can learn lots from a seasoned Quilter. If you are interested in learning to quilt, you can take beginner classes from your local quilt store. Here is the website for the guild if you’d like to attend the next meeting.
